History of Gwadar
Gwadar has served as a natural harbour for centuries due to its strategic location on the Arabian Sea. Archaeological evidence suggests that fishermen and traders lived here long before recorded history.
In 1783, the Sultan of Muscat was granted Gwadar by a local Baloch ruler. The town remained under Omani administration for nearly 175 years before Pakistan purchased Gwadar from Oman on 8 September 1958.
Today, Gwadar has become one of South Asia’s most important port cities and plays a key role in regional trade and economic development.
