History of Shogran

For generations, Shogran served as a summer grazing area for local shepherds from the Kaghan Valley. During the twentieth century, improved road access transformed the village into one of Pakistan’s best-known mountain resorts.

Today Shogran is an important stop on the route through Kaghan Valley and serves as the base for exploring nearby meadows, forests and mountain trekking routes.

Drive from Islamabad via Abbottabad, Balakot and Kiwai before ascending to Shogran. The final section from Kiwai is steep, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended, although local jeeps are available for hire.
