History of Uch Sharif
Although local traditions suggest that Uch may have existed in ancient times, the city rose to prominence during the early Islamic period. By the 12th and 13th centuries it had become one of the leading centers of Islamic learning and Sufism in the region.
Many renowned saints settled here, including Hazrat Jalaluddin Surkh-Posh Bukhari, whose influence spread across South Asia. Under the Delhi Sultanate and later the Mughal Empire, Uch Sharif continued to flourish as a center of education, calligraphy, religious scholarship and architecture.
The city’s surviving monuments are among the finest examples of early Islamic architecture in Pakistan and have been included on UNESCO’s Tentative List for World Heritage status.
