History of Ziarat
The name “Ziarat” means “place of pilgrimage,” referring to the shrine of the local saint Khwaja Roshan. For centuries, nomadic tribes used the region as a summer grazing area because of its cool climate and abundant springs.
During the British colonial period, Ziarat was developed as a hill station. The famous Residency was built in 1892 as a summer residence for British officials.
In 1948, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah stayed here during his illness. Today, the beautifully restored Residency is one of Pakistan’s most important national monuments.
